Proverbs 25:21-22 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink. For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.
Enemy: One who feels hatred toward, intends injury to, or opposes the interest of another; a foe; Something destructive or injurious in its effects.
If you see your enemy hungry, go buy him lunch; if he is thirsty, bring him a drink.
Say WHAT?! It really goes against the grain sometimes to do this, doesn't it? (ok, I guess I'm showing how human I really am. *sigh) However, the scriptures always speak truth and I do have to say that when I've done the above, God has always seen me through.
It is hard sometimes to be nice, genteel, and to put it simply...be a Christian...to someone I feel is so outward about opposing my interest; especially when it comes to Godly things. I easily feel justified in my anger (and perhaps, hatred) toward the individual.
But, we really can do all things through Christ, can't we? :-) Generosity surprises those that know they don't deserve it. Often times it fills them with the "warm-fuzzies" aka: goodness, and it would seem that the wrong is rewarded, but the giver and receiver both now better. Both parties can end up with that glow-in-the-dark fuzzy feeling! Forgiveness wins. :-)
God looks after those that obey His Word. He will see to it that the deed was worth your time.
I believe God wants us to be reminded again of these words of scripture. In fact, I know He does. There is way, way too much hate in the world. It is a time, an opportunity, as never before the Bride of Christ to shine. I don't know what the future holds, but I know the GOD that holds all things. Not one thing slips from His hands. He is the MASTER of the wind and the Anchor of the soul. He can, and often times will, calm the storm and make the sun shine again. In the meantime, while the storm--the unjustness--prevails, be calm, rest in HIS encouragement, and the courage to conquer the war(s) within you by applying the comfort of scriptures such as this to your life and someone else's.
I dare to think where I would be today had His love not been freely given. If I need an example regarding the way I should conduct myself all I have to do is look to the Cross. (ponder that)
The desperate, humble prayer of my humanity is: GOD, HELP ME!!!
He never fails to do so.
